Elected Board of Directors and Members for the 2022-2023 Term
We want to foster an atmosphere of support for other local Chinese based organizations by announcing or publicizing events that they may host. And we want to share knowledge of Chinese culture with whomever may peruse the CCBA Newsletter.
Beverly Cho is the owner of a her family business Cho’s Kitchen, third generation in Selma, California that started in 1963. Beverly has been in CCBA for over 10 years. She’s has also been a member of the Central Valley Lioness Lions Club for over 20 years and serving as treasurer for many of those years. She was able to take groups to China for vacation on nine different occasions, who comprised of people she knew in the Central Valley. She loves to travel, having been to Europe and Asia. Currently she is elected to the Selma City Council as Mayor Pro Term which is a four year term.

Howard Wong, Controller/Office Manager, is currently employed with MJ Avila Company Inc. He has practiced accounting for over 38 years and earned his BS in Business Administration – Accountancy Option from California State University, Fresno. He is currently President of the Wong Family Benevolent Association of Fresno and serves on the Wong Family National Board of Directors. Further, he is a member of the Executive Board of Fresno Chinatown Preservation and on the committee of the Annual Chinese New Year Parade for Fresno Chinatown. He is fifth degree Black Belt in Karate and an instructor at the American Academy of Martial Arts in Clovis, CA.

Norman Wong, CPA is a partner at Dunn, Jeffries, Herring & Wong, LLP. He has practiced accounting for over 38 years and earned his BS in Business Administration – Accountancy Option from the California State University, Fresno. He served as past President of the CCBA from 2016-2017, Wong Family Benevolent Association of Fresno and Cal CPA Fresno Chapter. He current services as board director of CCBA and treasurer of the Wong Family Benevolent Association of Fresno. He also serves on the finance committee fro Reading and Beyond. He can often be seen as the “God of Fortune/Choy Sun” at the annual Fresno Chinese New Year parade.

Cathy Shieh is a long-standing member of the CCBA, having been appointed to the Board in June 2005. She was the Vice President from 2010-2011 and the President from 2012-2013. She served as Chinese Secretary from November 2006-2009 and has held this position again since 2014. She has held this position again since 2014. She had her own business farming 40 acres in Fresno for 43 years. She also had a business specializing in export trading for 40 years. She sold both in 2018. She has a passion for floral arrangements and enjoys min-chip ice cream.

Darren C. Woo, LUTCF: is a financial services professional with New York Life Insurance Company, and has been in the financial planning business for 31 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Finance option from California State University, Fresno. He has been a board of director with CCBA and Yuen Hoy Association in Fresno. He is also a member of Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club where he frequently plays tennis and pickleball, and has served on the board of directors as president. Darren is a Fresno native and is proud to be a member of its fine community.
Jay was born and raised in Fresno, working part time from an early age with his parents, Vickie and Kenneth Louie at Louie Foods, a noodle manufacturer and bean sprout grower. He graduated from Fresno High School and went to UCSB, then to UCB where he graduated with a BA in Economics. Following his degree from UCB he obtained a law degree from University of Loyola at Los Angeles School of Law. After passing the bar in 1975 he practiced law in various corporations and firms in LA. He returned to Fresno with his family in the latter part of 1986. While he was looking for a new legal position, he helped out at Louie foods allowing his parents to take a long well-deserved vacation. Before finding a new position, his father’s illness necessitated his taking over the business and has been there since. Louie Foods has expanded from manufacturing to include distribution of restaurant supplies. He became a CCBA Board Member in 1996.

Reggie was born and raised in Fresno and began his involvement in Chinese New Year lion dances with John Cho’s Kung Fu School and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association in 1993 at the age of 11 years old and officially became a board member 2022. He served as a Medic and Surgical Tech in the United States Air Force and later in the California Air National Guard from 2005-2014. After his honorable discharge Reggie pursued a nursing degree and after completion of the RN program, he was hired as a Float Team RN at Clovis Community Medical Center then moving on to Community Medical Home Health nursing. Currently, he is the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Coordinator for the Fresno VA hospital where he develops, implements, maintains, and continuing evaluations of the hospital’s program for safe patient handing policies and procedures. He is also an adjunct nursing skills instructor at Institute of Technology Vocational Nursing program in the evenings. Reggie is Sifu and co-owner of Long Fist Kung Fu Association and the Long Fist Association Lion Dance Team as we continue to carry on our involvement with the CCBA Chinese New Year celebrations and cultural outreach for the Central Valley.

John Cho joined the CCBA back in the 1980’s upon the invitation of Mr. Wallace Wong. He had been using the CCBA building for a kung-fu class on Sunday Mornings. He proposed the idea of offering scholarships through the CCBA and this was guided by the leadership of Dr. Stan Louie over many years. John Cho’s Lion Dance Team went out to local Chinese businesses to wish them a prosperous new year for thirty years before his kung-fu school closed in 2021. His immediate family include the following: wife Ling, daughter Elaine, son James, sister Bev, brother William and granddaughter Kenzie.
